OU Law Focus on Healthcare Law

With more than 4,000 students served in medical fields by the University of Oklahoma, healthcare continues to grow in focus.  Combine this expertise with the increasing complexity in healthcare related to the Affordable Care Act, billing related to Medicare/Medicaid, and overall compliance necessary to function within the healthcare field, it should come as no surprise that the OU College of Law has built considerable expertise in this important area.

Led by Dean Joseph Harroz Jr. who formerly was the President of publicly traded healthcare company, OU College of Law is proud to offer a graduate degree in Healthcare Law.  This program, built specifically for non-lawyers, is aimed at healthcare industry professionals that desire a stronger foundation in law and policy.  This program, named the Masters of Legal Studies (M.L.S.) in Healthcare Law, offers an accelerated program (15 months) that can be taken primarily online.  The only exception is a weeklong residency hosted at the OU Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, which provides the students a capstone experience working on a real legal issue and interfacing with legal professors as well as medical faculty.

To ensure that this program meets the needs of the healthcare industry, OU College of Law has created a Healthcare Advisory Board made up of Healthcare CEOs, lawyers leading healthcare practices at major law firms and general counsels from healthcare companies.  Together, the faculty has built a curriculum that will provide a comprehensive legal foundation that will be applicable to compliance officers, procurement staff, human resource professionals, marketing professionals, advocates, and many others across the healthcare landscape.
