Two OU Law Teams Finish in Top 7 at Competition

OU Law kicked off the fall competition season at the National Health Law moot court competition held at the Southern Illinois University College of Law in Carbondale, Ill. on November 1 and 2. My 2L teammate Elizabeth Isaacs and I competed in the final round and placed second in the competition. Justin Hedges, 3L, and Rachel Sibila, 2L, placed seventh after advancing to the quarter finals. This is the first year OU Law has advanced to the final round of the National Health Law competition. We were coached by Professor Gail Mullins.

Frobisher, Johnson Win Calvert Moot Court Competition

In a close contest, Kelsey Frobisher and Blake Johnson were declared the winning team in Friday’s final of the 2013 Calvert Moot Court Competition at OU Law.

Frobisher and Johnson argued the position of the respondents in Town of Greece, New York v. Susan Galloway and Linda Stephens, a real case that is on the U.S. Supreme Court docket this term, but has not yet been heard by the justices. Runners-up Joe Trail and Mahtab Doty argued on behalf of the city.

Attorney General Pruitt Visits OU Law

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt visited OU Law this week to help educate students and generate some interest in working for his office. As the featured guest at Wednesday’s “Lunch and Learn,” Pruitt, who was co-owner and managing general partner of the Oklahoma City Redhawks Triple-A baseball team from 2003 to 2010, opened with a “pitch.”

“I’m here today like a general manager, scouting for new talent,” Pruitt said. "We’re hiring and we want you to consider being part of our team at the Attorney General’s office.”

Hartzog Conger Cason & Neville Hosts 1L Class at Downtown OKC Firm

Less than a month after starting classes, first-year students at the University of Oklahoma College of Law were able to participate in a networking event at the downtown law offices of Hartzog Conger Cason & Neville.

For two hours, students were able to visit with the practicing attorneys and staff, learning about the firm’s practice areas and clients. The lawyers explained their specific legal career paths and offered tips to law students desiring to practice in a similar setting.

SELS Students Learn from Sports Agent Alumna

Sports agent and OU Law alumna Kelli Masters ('99) spoke to students in the Sports Entertainment Law Society (SELS) today.

Masters, who also was the featured twirler for the Sooners and earned her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from OU, is now a registered sports agent. She serves as President of Kelli Masters Management, and is Of Counsel with the law firm of Fellers, Snider, Blankenship, Bailey & Tippens, P.C.

Among the experiences she shared with students was what it was like to have one of her clients become a first-round draft pick in the National Football League.
