Melvin Hall speaks at BLSA’s “Remembering Our History” Program
Melvin Hall, a 1981 graduate of OU Law, joined the Black Law Student Association to speak at the group’s “Remembering Our History” Program.  Mr. Hall’s speech focused on the strides the African-American community has made in the legal field and credited Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher for many of those changes.  He told the students of the impact she made in his life and how the students will also have the power to change someone’s life.  “You have to encourage people.  People are going to respect you.

OU Law Professor Katheleen Guzman is awarded an Oklahoma Medal for Excellence!

Katheleen R. Guzman, the Earl Sneed Centennial Professor of Law and MAPCO/Williams Presidential Professor of Law is this year’s winner of the Medal for Excellence in Teaching at a Research University.  “The energy she gives to students is significant and radiates in all that she does,” said College of Law Dean Joseph Harroz, Jr. A law professor for more than two decades, Guzman said she sets high expectations for her students, with the ultimate goal of teaching students how to teach themselves. “I demand daily written briefs and lower grades for inadequate preparation,” Guzman said.

The ABA National Appellate Advocacy Teams and the BLSA Moot Court Team Make it to Nationals!

Three more OU Law competition teams bring home awards.  Two teams headed to San Francisco for the ABA NAAC regional competitions.  The team of Kelsey Frobisher, Blake Johnson, and Alex Duncan AND the team of Brett Merritt, Andrew Henry, and Jeff Vogt were undefeated and advanced to the final round.  Kelsey Frobisher, Blake Johnson, and Jeff Vogt won speaker awards, while the team of Kelsey Frobisher, Blake Johnson, and Alex Duncan won 3rd best brief.  The teams were coached by Professor Michelle Johnson who will also take them to the national competition in Chicago in April.

CONGRATULATIONS to the OU Law ABA Negotiation and Client Competition teams!

 

The 2013-2014 competition season continues as OU Law students keep the winning tradition going.  The Negotiation Team headed to the windy city to represent The University of Oklahoma College of Law in the ABA National Competition.  Taylor Jones and Zack Ryan competed against 24 other teams in the national competition.  The team advanced to the semi-final round at nationals as second seed finishing fifth overall.  Congratulations to Taylor, Zack and their coach, Professor Erin Means.

2013 Appellate Advocacy Brief Prizes Awarded

Each year, the OU College of Law awards cash prizes to students selected as having written outstanding appellate briefs in Legal Research, Writing & Appellate Advocacy II classes.
