Introduction

The University of Oklahoma College of Law, through its Office of Professional & Career Development, is involved in a variety of activities designed to assist students seeking employment as summer clerks or interns as well as permanent employment. While the most visible activity sponsored by the college is the Fall & Spring on-campus interview programs, many students benefit from the office staff's expertise and resources regarding legal careers, legal employers, available positions, and bar memberships. Office of Professional & Career Development helps students and recent graduates throughout the year in the career planning and job placement process. Limited assistance is also provided to alumni seeking career changes as well as students and alumni of other schools pursuant to a reciprocity arrangement.

University of Oklahoma College of Law graduates are found in all fifty states and in thirteen foreign countries or U.S. Territories. They can be found among the ranks of legislators, judges, writers, teachers, lawyers in private practice, government service, in large corporations and small businesses. A substantial number of graduates choose public services positions--from those of Assistant District Attorney to Staff Attorney for Legal Aid--options, options that are proving too costly for most graduates of private law schools. Much like the national pattern for attorney employment, the vast majority of our alumni practice law in the private sector in firms with under ten attorneys. About one-third of University of Oklahoma College of Law graduates seek and find positions in states other than Oklahoma.

In a job market that continues to be fairly tight, OU grads have a respectable placement record. Typically, within nine months of graduation, 95% of our graduates have been placed in a job.
