OU Law students enrolled in the juris doctor degree program have the opportunity to enhance their degree by earning a certificate in specific areas of law. Certificates are offered in areas of excellence for OU and which are vital to economic growth in Oklahoma, nationally, and internationally. Certificates can be earned in the following areas (links open in new window):
• Natural Resources
• Business Entrepreneurship
• American Indian law
In general, to earn a Certificate students must successfully complete courses that provide a solid foundation in the law applicable to the Certificate’s area and acquire specialized skills either through an experiential component or by successfully completing specified courses offered by other colleges within OU. Being an integral part of a comprehensive university provides a career shaping opportunity for OU Law graduates to learn beyond the law from experts in relevant disciplines such as business and finance, geology, and earth sciences. Certificate requirements are designed to complement the juris doctor degree requirements and to be completed during the JD student’s three years of law school. The specific requirements of each Certificate are available by clicking on the name of each Certificate in the above list. For further information on the Certificate programs please contact the Registrar or the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
