Paralegal Studies

OU Law’s ABA-approved paralegal studies certificate prepares you to work with lawyers in public and private law practice, in the judiciary, corporations, and government.

Celebrating Over 50 Years Educating Paralegals

Extensive Course Offering

"One of the great advantages in OU’s paralegal program is how each course builds on the next. From Intro to Law to Civil Litigation to Evidence, each course seemed to pull back a deeper layer of the law. Further, the vast array of elective courses provide an invaluable glimpse into which field of law a student might be best suited for." - Bre Little, Graduate

In Her Words

Approved by the American Bar Association

Dedicated Faculty

"I have been teaching at OU for over 15 years because I wanted to make a real difference for students by teaching from the perspective of a paralegal and I still feel that way today.  It is important to me that students receive actual paralegal work for their assignments so they will be able to see what they will be doing on an everyday basis as a paralegal.  It has always been my goal that students succeed in my classes and get the one-on-one attention they deserve.  I enjoy staying in contact with the students for support and advice during their other classes and after graduation." - Elaine Haack, Instructor

Flexible and Convenient Classes

100% Synchronous and Online Courses

Courses are offered in a variety of formats including live sessions (synchronous through Zoom) on Saturdays (9 am to 5 pm), completely online, and in a hybrid format (meets live and online). Students must complete 9 synchronous credits. The times and formats that courses are offered in are convenient for those students who are working. Students can complete the program within 18 months or have up to five years to complete the program requirements.

Message from the Director

"I enjoy teaching in the online classroom because students have the ability to interact with me and each other during the course. The classes are engaging and interactive. Our program provides the education and training needed to enter the paralegal profession as well as formal education for current paralegals." - Sunny Rowland, Director and Instructor

Please note paralegals cannot give legal advice, accept cases, set legal fees, represent clients in court or perform any legal service without the supervision of a licensed lawyer.
