Family Law

Family law affects more people than almost any other area of legal study. At OU Law, we combine theory and practice to ensure our students have the understanding of the law and the ability to apply it.

The Juris Doctor Program

Faculty members who have written the law in Oklahoma and have litigated the cases which interpret the statutes teach courses in basic family law, parentage, juvenile, and international family law. Students then can enroll in the Civil Clinic, in which they maintain a family-law heavy caseload. The College of Law also offers the unique opportunity to participate in the Interdisciplinary Training Program on the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect which provides them with the professional network to prepare them to be leaders in the CAN arena. OU’s partnership with the Oklahoma Supreme Court affords our students certification training in family mediation, and student organizations include the Victim Assistance Program, in which students train to help advise victims of domestic violence.
