General Practitioner

The profession of law has a rich tradition of general practice. Generalists serve a wide variety of clients with an even wider variety of legal issues.

The Juris Doctor Program

Most general practitioners work in small firms or in solo practice. Although most lawyers interested in working in a small town will find themselves working as generalists, many lawyers working in small to medium-sized firms in larger towns and cities may also practice as generalists.

If you anticipate a career as a general practitioner or you are simply unsure of what kind of career you want, you should take a rich variety of courses while in law school to obtain the breadth necessary to advise clients who may have a multitude of needs and to develop client-oriented skills.
