Tax Law

Tax lawyers work in law firms, corporations, government agencies, and accounting firms. OU Law creates unique opportunities for students to learn the practice of tax law in an experiential way.

The Juris Doctor Program

Tax lawyers help clients understand and comply with their federal and state tax liabilities, as well as assist individuals and corporations as they plan their affairs to minimize income tax liabilities associated with their businesses and their property transactions.

In addition to tax planning, many tax lawyers are involved in litigation, representing clients in administrative and court disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and state and local tax agencies. Some tax lawyers specialize in practice areas such as estate planning, employee benefits law, international tax, or state and local tax.
