Associate Professor John C. Duncan, Jr. joined the faculty of The University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2002. Previously, he was a visiting professor at the OU College of Law. Before coming to OU he had been a visitor at Emory University Law School and prior to that was at Texas Wesleyan Law School. Professor Duncan comes to academia after Federal Government service as a senior Air Force Judge Advocate retiring as a Colonel. He has served as Legal Advisor to the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Oversight and as Legal Advisor to the United Nations Command in Seoul and Pan Mun Jom, Korea.

Duncan also is a decorated Vietnam Veteran. Early in his government career he was on the faculty of the National Security Agency's National Cryptologic School. He has served as General Counsel for a variety of military bases domestically and internationally. In addition to his academic and government service, he has experience in the private sector as a contract consultant for Verizon Corporation. He began his academic career as an Edward Rector Scholar and a Distinguished Graduate of DePauw University, followed by Masters degrees from the University of Michigan, a Master of Business and Public Administration degree from Southeastern University, a Ph.D. from Stanford University, and a J.D. from Yale Law School where he re-instituted Phi Delta Phi and was a Richardson Dilworth Fellow. He has also attended Laval University (Quebec, Canada), Harvard University, Oxford University, and the Hague Academy of International Law.

Duncan's other credentials include a national clinical license as a marriage, family, and child counselor, as well as certification as a mediator. Professor Duncan is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the American Bar Association, and the National Bar Assocation. He is also a member of the Order of the Coif, and a Board Member of the Air Force Judge Advocate General School. His varied background is reflected in his teaching areas of interest: Administrative Law, Contracts, Commercial law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Education Law, International and Comparative Law, Anthropology and the Law, and National Security Law. His scholarly writings are published in various law journals such as the Columbia University Law School Journal of Environmental Law, Indiana University (Bloomington) Law Journal, the Brigham Young University Law Journal, and the University of Virginia Journal of Social Policy and the Law.
