Associate Professor Mary Margaret "Meg" Penrose joined the Faculty of The University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2000. Her areas of emphasis include human rights, federal civil procedure, mediation/negotiation, civil rights, habeas corpus, and gender discrimination. She teaches Civil Procedure, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and International Human Rights.
Professor Penrose's career began as a senior law clerk for the Honorable Jerry Buchmeyer, Chief Judge, United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. After a year with Thompson & Knight in Fort Worth, Texas, Penrose practiced as a sole practitioner in Dallas in the area of civil rights and employment litigation. Most recently, she was Staff Attorney to the Honorable Jane J. Boyle, Magistrate Judge, United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Penrose is the author of several articles on international human rights, most recently Lest We Fail: The Importance of Enforcement in International Criminal Law, 15 Am. U. Int'l L & Pol'y 321 (2000), and a forthcoming article in the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law. At Pepperdine, she served as the Managing Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review.
Professor Penrose is a member of the Texas Bar and the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She lectures frequently on the topics of ethics, human rights, and federal court practice.
