Policies for Official Web Pages

Adapted from The University of Oklahoma Web Policy Statement (opens in a new window).

This policy is applicable to any member of the Law Center community acting in their university capacity and/or using university resources.

In order to maintain and preserve high educational standards for all students, The University of Oklahoma Law Center complies with all relevant Federal and State laws and all University policies.

The quality and accuracy of information published by the University of Oklahoma Law Center plays a significant role in sustaining the strong reputation and image of the Law Center. This policy also sets minimum standards designed to ensure that information published electronically is well written, as well as visually appealing, and follows the same high standards as other forms of published information, including print, audiovisual, multimedia, etc.

Policy Statement

The University of Oklahoma Law Center recognizes the value and potential of publishing on the Internet. Allowing and encouraging student organizations, staff, faculty, and Law Center departments to publish electronic information on the OU Law Center Web provides the OU Law community with the latest technological advances in computing and publishing.

Faculty, staff, student organizations, and Law Departments may create electronic home pages, publications' pages, or other pages that carry out official University business in support of the University's mission. These may not link to personal pages. Contents of these electronic pages must follow University standards regarding nondiscrimination and must conform to law and University policies.

Departmental Web Page Requirements

In addition to conforming to the policies as outlined in this page, all web pages that are available to the public must have the following information at the bottom of the page:

Web Application Requirements

Web Applications differ from normal static web pages. All Web Applications must be approved by the Dean of the College of Law and the Law Center's Director of Technology. Web Applications provide the public with dynamic access to our web site via interactive searches, requests for information, user provided data, and many other activities that are dynamic in nature. A web page is considered a web application if it utilizes any service on any Law Center or University owned server in addition to the web service. These services include but are not limited to Cold Fusion, Seagate Crystal Reports, Adobe Acrobat, Applets, or any other application that currently or may in the future reside on any Law Center or University owned server. Due to the inherent security risk involved with web applications, the need to provide users with information to complete the task initiated in that page, and the possibility of application failures, all web applications made available to the public must comply with the following policies in addition to the policies as outlined in this page.

The following should be included at the bottom of each Web Application:

Personal Web Page Requirements

Faculty and Staff may create personal homepages on the OU Law Center Web server. These may link to anything not prohibited by this policy, by the University's policies, or by local, Oklahoma, or Federal law. These must have the following elements visible on the bottom of the page:

All official home pages and pages that are the electronic equivalent of a publication will end with the University of Oklahoma's interlocking OU, or the letters "OU", and contain the word Disclaimer on the bottom of the page. When a user selects the Disclaimer, they will bring up the disclaimer and links to the policy statement.

Copyright and Trademark laws apply to electronic publishing as well as to print publishing. Unless accepted by law, page Developers must have permission to publish the information, graphics, or photographs on their pages if they are not the copyright or trademark owner. Electronic publications are subject to the same University policies and standards as print publications.

OU's resources may not be used to create web pages for personal business or personal gain. The University does allow for pages that provide information about an individual that is relevant to that individual's role at the University.

Computer Use Statement for Official OU Law Center Web Pages

The University of Oklahoma Law Center provides computer services, networking, and computer facilities to enhance the educational and administrative processes that make up OU's computing community. Upon notification of misuse or infringement, the Law Center shall investigate and may, among other things, subject the infringing person/organization to removal from the OU Web.

Examples of materials which should not be included on Law Center Web Pages which violate the law or university policy:

The above policies also covers such acts as theft or mutilation of the Law Center's property, for example computing equipment, and the unacknowledged or unauthorized appropriation of another's computer program, or the results of that program, in whole or in part, for a computer-related exercise or assignment (including copyrighted computer programs).
