Meet the Class of 2015
Karl WertOklahoma City, Oklahoma
1. Where did you grow up?
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I have lived in Oklahoma all my life except for my undergraduate studies.
2. Where did you attend undergrad?
DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana
3. What degree(s) have you earned?
I received a BM in cello performance and a minor in English literature.
4. Why did you choose to attend OU Law?
After four years of being far away from home, I decided I wanted to come back to the great state of Oklahoma. OU Law is one of the most respected law schools in Oklahoma. I was drawn to the smaller class sizes and college-town feel of Norman. Norman seems like such a great place to be a student, and it is a place where I know I can find a balance of rigorous study and social life. OU Law is a great choice for anyone seeking to practice in Oklahoma or the Midwest, and I am excited to start the journey of becoming a lawyer.
5. What is your favorite thing about OU?
The longstanding Sooner football tradition, excellent facilities and solid resources for students make the University of Oklahoma truly a one-of-a-kind institution.
6. What (or who) inspired you to pursue a legal education?
My dad attended OU Law. Even though he does not practice law, he attributes much of his success he has found in business to the “intellectual gymnastics” he learned in law school. He is one of the smartest people I know, and witnessing his character and ability to problem solve has definitely encouraged me to pursue a legal education at OU. In addition, a recent internship with a local Oklahoma lobbying firm also contributed to my interest in finding creative ways to resolve issues between two or more parties.
7. What is an interesting fact about you?
This past year I have had the privilege of playing in master classes at DePauw for both the American String Quartet as well as the world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
