Three OU Law Professors Honored at “A Tribute to the Faculty”

On Thursday, April 10th, The University of Oklahoma held “A Tribute to the Faculty” honoring the faculty of the Norman Campus.  Three professors for OU College of Law won were honored. 

Professor Stephen Henderson received of the Vice President for Research Award for Outstanding Research Impact.  Professor Henderson is a highly productive scholar whose research on law enforcement access to information in the hands of third parties is singular in its urgency and direct impact on individuals in a modern society.  His developments in educational technology have improved legal education and have the potential to dramatically impact its future.  This award acknowledges and celebrates exceptional faculty research, scholarship and creative activity.  The Award endeavors to reward such activity remarkable in its impact on culture, individuals, communities, organizations, fields of inquiry, industry, and education.

Professor Steven Cleveland received the Merrick Teaching Award which honors the faculty member who is considered most outstanding in bringing to students a better understanding and appreciation of the economic and political basis of American society.   Professor Cleveland not only fosters an understanding of our free enterprise system, he has a gift for making it accessible and exciting to young law students. As a skilled and enthusiastic anchor of the College of Law’s corporate curriculum, he has inspired numerous graduate of the OU Law to pursue a professional practice in that arena.  OU Law recruited Professor Cleveland over a decade ago because of his unique ability to instill the political and economic basis of our free enterprise system to law students. 

Professor Donald Bogan received the Thomas P. Hester Presidential Professorship.   Presidential Professorships are supported entirely by private donations.  They are designed to honor, reward, and retain top faculty members who excel at teaching and mentoring students.  Unless the donor prefers to be anonymous, all Presidential Professorships are given in the name of the donor or as the donor designates.  Professor Bogan was selected because he embodies a rare combination of practical legal experience, passion for teaching and mentoring students, and a record of sustained, penetrating scholarship in the arcane and highly complex area of ERISA law.  He brought those qualities to bear to the enormous benefit of his students and the College of Law.
